Medical treatments and surgeries can be critical to restoring and preserving vision. The results may be life-changing, but the costs can be a barrier for many individuals. Prevention Services may assist South Carolina residents who have a visual impairment and meet financial need requirements, providing financial assistance for sight-saving or sight-improving procedures/surgeries.

Procedures that may be eligible for assistance include (but are not limited to):

  • Cataracts
  • Retinal detachment repair
  • Other vision-related medical treatments

Early assistance may help individuals maintain their vision, support their independence, and improve their ability to work and participate fully in their communities. We also partner with optometrists and ophthalmologists throughout the state to provide services that may enhance remaining vision.

To be eligible for the Prevention of Blindness program, you must meet financial need requirements.
