Located on SCCB’s Columbia Campus, the Training Center helps to prepare individuals who are blind or low vision to achieve meaningful employment and self-sufficient living.

The Center serves consumers statewide, providing training that is individualized based on consumers’ goals. Consumers within 50 miles may travel to the Center daily or stay on site at the Center’s residential facility (Monday through Friday) to receive services.

Consumers Gain

Employment readiness, vocational rehabilitation, and disability-related skills training result in:

Core Training

Orientation and Mobility: Equips consumers with the skills needed to travel safely and independently in their home, community, or at work by using a white cane.

Braille Instruction: Helps consumers become proficient in reading and writing braille.

Home and Personal Management: Consumers learn personal skills that support employment and independence.

Career Readiness / Workplace Skills: Consumers learn communication, workplace behavior, time management, teamwork, and problem-solving skills, along with resume development, interview preparation, and self-advocacy.

Assistive Technology: Training in the use of assistive devices, keyboarding, and software (such as JAWS and ZoomText) to support independence in work and home settings.
