Services

Rehabilitation Technology staff work closely with consumers to determine what tools and devices can meet their specific needs. Some consumers may receive consultation and technology to enhance workplace accessibility. Consumers who receive devices are provided training to use them effectively and confidently.

Common tools and devices

Optical Aids are specialized devices used by individuals with low vision to enlarge text, images, and objects. These enhance independence in reading, writing, and other daily tasks.

Non-optical Aids are tools that enhance visual access and daily functioning, focusing on lighting, contrast, positioning, and tactile and auditory support.

Digital braillers convert digital text into tactile braille, allowing blind and low vision users to read, write, and access computer or mobile content.

Screen readers like JAWS (Job Access with Speech) are apps that read screen content aloud, allowing users to interact with other apps, websites, and documents. ZoomText is a screen magnification and screen reading app for individuals who are low vision. It enlarges screen content, enhancing text clarity to reduce eye strain.
